In 2022-24 she was appointed a Professor II at University of South-Eastern Norway, where she was affiliated to the Center for Embodied Making and Learning with a leading role in the Making & Materiality Group. Bang’s most significant research contribution lies within fashion and textile design, and it supports the green transition of the related industries. Her research is related to the systems and structures constituting the industry and includes research about alternative materials, the use and re-use of these, and the importance of prototypes in the light of circular economy. Moreover, Bang’s research impact is within dialogue tools with industry stakeholders, consumers and users to generate knowledge about interaction with and use of clothing and textiles. The collaboration with industry stakeholders ensures that her research diffuses into the industry and supports the necessary paradigm change of the industry. This is well connected to her research in design methodology, where she has contributed to experimental and practice-based research and ways in which design practitioners can generate knowledge using design tools and craftmanship.
